Northend Youth v Coleraine Olympic Saturday 28th October 2017

The wee blues were back in action in the HGFYL on Saturday against a so far unbeaten Coleraine Olympic side.

The early exchanges were fast and furious with both goalkeepers tested in the opening few minutes. But it was the wee blues who took control after 10 minutes when Harry Livingstone scored with a wonderful half volley from 25 yards. Within as many minutes it was 2 when a through ball set Feargal McKay free down the right he cut inside and fired a thunderous shot to the roof of the net. The rest of the half saw the boys dominate possession and play some great football.

The second half saw the introduction of 5 subs, although disrupting the fast-flowing game of the first half a big effort from everyone ensured a first clean sheet of the season. This was a great performance with Paddy Murphy outstanding in goals, Jamie Boyd and Seb Smyth solid in defence, the midfield showing of Jack Stewart, Jack Dowds and Feargal McKay a constant threat and Harry Livingstone led the line superbly. The pick of the subs were Michael O'Donnell, Garron Donnelly and debutant Fintan McKillop.

5 Alive for Northend Youth Under 11's

The Youths had an early start at a 'Bumper Packed' University in Coleraine. With conditions excellent the 'Wee Blues' produced some of their best football to-date. Northend got off to an excellent start with the central midfield of Jack Dowds and Jack Stewart controlling play from the off. The wingers of Joe McKay and Fergal McKay were creating havoc for the Ballymoney defence which allowed Harry Livingstone playing as a lone striker to prod home from close range. As the first half progressed Northend continued to press from the back with Jamie Boyd, Seb Smyth and Callum Watt being instrumental in dictating the play, this allowed Jack Dowds to progress further forward and he added his first hat trick of the season to his tally.

Just before half time a couple of changes were made with Garron Donnelly and Michael O'Donnell entering the fray. Both players worked tirelessly in closing down the play and keeping Ballymoney pegged back.

In the second half, Northend found themselves still sitting in the changing rooms with Ballymoney scoring straight from kick off. After a few minutes of pressure from Ballymoney and a couple of excellent saves from Paddy Murphy the 'wee blues' boys started to control the game with a further goal from Harry Livingstone after a Garron Donnelly effort was well saved.

Northend Youth v Bertie Peacocks Saturday 7th October 2017

The Wee Blues looking to build on last week's performance ayer in the early kick off against Bertie Peacocks. A slow start and a few individual errors saw the boys trail by 4 after 10 minutes. A strong finish to the half saw 2 quick goals one from Jack Dowds and Harry Livingstone.

The boys dominated the first 10 minutes of the second half creating some good opportunities but failed to close the gap. A couple of late goals left the scoreboard more reflective of the gap between the sides on the day. At this level there is no room for complacency and today too many boys failed to auto their potential. It's back to training g Monday night and look to bounce back next Saturday.

Northend Youth v Foyle Belles Saturday 30th September 2017

The Wee Blues picked up their first win of the season at HGFYL on Saturday against a much older and stronger Foyle Belles side. Fielding a strong starting line-up with last season's regulars back on board the boys started brightly and soon went one up when Harry Livingstone got on the end of a good move involving five players. Jack Stewart was proving a handful for the opposition, his ability to hold the ball up and bring the midfield into play paid dividends when he finished from a fine cross from Jack Dowds. With the midfield 3 of Feargal McKay, Harry Livingstone and Jack Dowds controlling the game we pushed on and scored another two, one from Jack Dowds and then a spectacular long range effort from Seb Smyth. A couple of individual errors saw the Belles pull a couple back but we finished the half strongly with Jack Stewart picking up his second of the game.

The second half started well and two early goals from Seb Smyth and a deflected effort from Jack Dowds killed the game off. This gave an opportunity to get a couple of the new lads some game time and they showed positive attitude in their first run out at this level. This was a solid performance with the back 3 of Callum Watt, Seb Smyth and Joseph McKay looking solid. In midfield Feargal McKay, Harry Livingstone, and Man of the match Jack Dowds playing some flowing football, Jack Stewart led the line superbly. The subs all made a positive impact when introduced.

Northend Youth v Maiden City Academy Saturday 23rd September 2017

Northend Youth U11 travelled to Coleraine for a match against Maiden City. This is a huge step up for the young youth side who have been entered into the top section of the Harry Gregg Youth League. With several players missing it gave opportunities to other players to make the step up. After a slow start and conceding a couple of early goals, Jack Stewart made a couple of excellent saves to keep the game in touch. Jackson Greer soon responded with an excellent header to pull one back for the 'Wee blues'. Some excellent defending by Peter Finnegan, Seb Smyth and Calvin Termonia allowed the team to start to grow in confidence. Lewis McDonald, Harry Livingstone, Michael O'Donnell, Jack Dowds competed well in midfield to create a few opportunities however the halftime whistle came a little too early with Northend in the ascendancy.

In the 2nd half Northend Youth were slow starters which allowed Maiden City to take control with a few well work worked goals before a late consolation low strike from Greer.

Northend Youth v Coleraine Academy Saturday 16th September 2017

The Baby Blues kicked off their season at the Harry Gregg Youth foundation League against a strong Coleraine Academy side. Fielding a team with only four playersfrom last season's regulars it took the boys sometime to get into the pace of the game. A couple of early mistakes saw us trail by after 8 minutes. Good work from Harry Livingstone sent Feargal McKay free on goal only to see him up ended 25 yards from goal. Feargal McKay took the resulting free kick and fired a superb effort into the top corner. The goal gave the boys the lift they needed and they began to play with more confidence. The opposition midfield were proving a handful and created another couple of chances to go in ahead at half time.

In a much improved second half the boys showed character and bit more of the football we saw last season. Seb Smyth was outstanding in the centre of defence picking up the man of the match award. Joseph McKay introduction steadied the defence, Feargal McKay, Jack Dowds and Harry Livingstone worked tirelessly in midfield with Nicholas Agnew full of running when switched to lead the line. A tough start for the boys but it's early days and there were many positives from the game.
